"I Feel Like I can Fly"

Where do I start and how do I find words adequate to express what some of us experienced today…

13 years ago a teenage young lady began riding at our original SpiritHorse location in Flintstone, GA. She had previously been denied the privilege of Equine Therapy and further told she would be a liability to the facility.

This determined young lady rode in our Special Olympic Horse Show that year and won a first place in her division. When interviewed by a writer from the local newspaper, and asked what it felt like when she was riding, she responded “I feel like I can fly!” That became the title for the article in the newspaper. Today when asked that same question, 13 years later, she gave that same answer.

Rachel chooses to ride in a western saddle that has been enhanced with an attachment which enables her to sit up and hold on. She refuses to ride in a wheelchair saddle because as she says, “I want to feel the wind on my back”.

The love Rachel expressed for Axel, the same horse she rode 13 years ago and the feelings this experience ignited within her brought tears not only to Rachel, but to all of those working with her.

Swimming in the pool and riding in the wheelchair accessible swing both added to the horseback riding to make a most memorable day for this 30 year old young woman.

This is just one of many success stories for Freedom Ranch. Make no mistake, this is the Ministry of our Wonderful God. All Glory and Honor is due Him! We are just humbly blessed to be used as vessels for His love and work on this mission.
